Translate 轉變

Translate一般我們用做翻譯，但是也有轉變的意思。例如translate idea into action是將想法轉化成做法。轉變是及物動詞，用法是[某人] translates [A物] into [B物]。此時translate的同義字包括convert及transform。

Translate into如果作不及物動詞時，轉變就有導致的意思。通常是[A物] translates into [B物]。此時我們解讀為[A物]導致[B物]的發生。例如：

He believes that active managers aren't as good at this as they claim, and their caution translates into muted g ains for investors in good times. - Barron Magazine 20141020

這句中的muted是被消音的，引申為減少的，這個也是個有趣的說法。
