savor 儘情享受(食物的味道)

savor是食物的味道，拿來當動詞用的時候，要看主詞是人還是物。如果是物品，[something] savor (of) 就表示某個東西帶著某種味道，常被用來引申在抽象的風格而非真正的食物味道。例如：<His business practices savor of greed>, <He had an aversion to anything that savored of the supernatural>。

主詞是人而作及物動詞時，就變成享受那個味道的意思。引申在任何非常享受的時刻。舉例來說，<The team is still savoring its victory.>

smack

smack也是氣味，用法類似，也可以做動詞，例如：<Their comments smack of racism . >

seasoned 有經驗的

season是調味，seasoned是有調味的，有調味的人就是有經驗的人。

take [someone] down a peg

take someone down a peg 或是 take someone down a notch 都是挫挫某人的銳氣的意思。當對方出現過度自得意滿時，take someone down a peg，就是把他壓低一點。

snub是冷落的意思。

cold-shoulder是冷肩膀，中文說熱臉貼冷屁股，美國人用冷肩膀。

bid是向某人表達某事的意思。<He bade his friends good - bye and left >就是跟朋友說再見就走了。表達也可以用來表示命令。

在市場或拍賣會場上表達，就是出價。因此，bid又有出價的意思。

Panacea 萬靈丹

Panacea是希臘神話裏的一個能治病的女神。她的名字pan-是全部的意思，-acea是治的意思，所以合起來就是全都能治的女神。Panacea後來被引用做萬靈丹，在英文當中也常被拿來在批評別人的想法或做法時之用。舉例來說，某人提出一個方法來解決某個問題時，反對的人就會說那個方法並不是Panacea。

她有一個姐妹叫Hygiene是管健康與清潔的，現在英文中所用的hygiene就是清潔衛生的意思。
